Hackney Council is canvassing public opinion ahead of developing plans to reduce traffic pollution on a major street in north London.
Plans to create a Low Emissions Neighbourhood (LEN) in Stoke Newington follow the council’s successful application last summer for £500,000 from the Mayor of London’s Air Quality Fund.
The bid has four main funding aims: improving local air quality; delivering the Healthy Streets Approach; helping people to stop using combustion engine vehicles; enabling the transition to a zero carbon future.
According to the council, the LEN could fund several projects to help achieve these aims, such as implementing a cargo-bike hire scheme, increasing pavement space, encouraging a shift to electric vehicles, redesigning junctions to make walking and cycling easier, or restrictions on polluting traffic.
The council is now inviting local residents and businesses to share their experiences of walking, cycling and accessing public transport along Stoke Newington Church Street and the surrounding area via an online questionnaire, which can be complete here.
