With a few weeks to go until City Transport & Road Pricing Europe conference 2021, CiTTi meets speaker Diogo Pinto, policy director of FIA Region, who will discuss making urban mobility clean and green.
Taking place on 11-12 May 2021 via virtual conferencing platform Swapcard, City Transport & Road Pricing Europe 2021 will explore the latest developments and technologies shaping urban transportation via four key content themes: road pricing and tolling; emissions and sustainability; congestion and traffic management; and transportation infrastructure.
This two-day online event will see over 20 expert speakers highlight the latest road pricing and tolling projects, discuss intelligent transport infrastructures and present urban mobility schemes being implemented in major towns and cities across Europe, from Ljubljana and Oslo to Brussels and Lahti.
Name: Diogo Pinto
Job Role: Policy Director
Organisation: FIA Region
What is the best thing about your job?
From the amazing people I am privileged to work with both inside and outside the FIA Region, to the fascinating topics I am lucky to tackle, and the opportunity to contribute to making the world a little better.
What is the biggest challenge facing those with responsibility for developing sustainable urban mobility solutions in 2021?
I cannot claim for sure that it is the biggest, but the challenge that we all deal with is finding the right balance that will allow keeping mobility accessible and affordable for all, and, at the same time, changing it in the radical way that will be needed for making it climate-neutral as soon as possible.
What’s your best piece of advice for those looking to implement sustainable urban mobility solutions?
Put yourself in people’s shoes, especially the most fragile and neediest people of all.
Does legislation help or hinder development in the sector?
I like to believe that when legislation is well-thought, inclusive and fair, it can always work as an enabler.
What will sustainable urban mobility look like in 2030?
As everything else, the way urban mobility will look like in 2030 depends exclusively on what we will do for it now. At FIA Region, we work everyday to ensure that mobility in 2030 (and beyond) will be safe, affordable, clean, and efficient for all.
Why are you looking forward to speaking at City Transport & Road Pricing Europe 2021?
None of our objectives can be achieved if we remain in our respective corners. This will be one more opportunity to exchange views and learn from each other’s and will for sure contribute to find better solutions for the challenges that we all face.
At the conference you’ll also be able to hear from Continental, Transport & Environment, Greenplan, the cities of Stuttgart and Oslo, the European Green Capital 2021 project… and more!
