The 19th Road User Charging Conference starts tomorrow [04 May 2022] at the Steigenberger Wiltcher’s Hotel, Brussels. It features 38 transportation leaders from 21 countries over two streams, sharing insights on the latest tolling technologies, road pricing projects and intelligent transport systems being planned and implemented throughout Europe.
Over the next two days, senior-level speakers from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, France, Norway and the UK will come together to provide case studies and debate on current trends and future challenges that affect senior decision makers who have responsibility for intelligent transportation systems and road pricing.
There will be a second theatre dedicated to city transport and traffic innovation. The CiTTi stream will run alongside and see speakers from across the world deliver engaging and informative presentations on pressing topics affecting cities everywhere, including EVs, smart mobility, active travel and more.
Day 1 begins with opening remarks from chairmen Frederic Bruneteau, managing director at PTOLEMUS, and Keith Mortimer, director of Wyeval Consulting. This will be followed by 10 presentations and one packed panel session in the Road User Charger Conference, as well as 10 presentations and a double perspective in the CiTTi stream.
Bart Dewandeleer, vice president of VIAPASS, will deliver the first presentation of Day 1 providing an update on Belgium’s interregional Viapass system. Other unmissable sessions on Day 1 come from James Nix, freight manager – Transport & Environment; Claus Lund Andersen, project manager of the Danish Road Directorate and Wouter Van Haaften, senior researcher at Leibniz Institute.
Day 1’s panel session will see Cathal Masterson, director commercial operations – TII; Malika Seddi, secretary general & CEO – ASECAP; Jonny Geidne, senior advisor, vehicle information department – Swedish Transport Agency; Patrick Jones, executive director & CEO – IBTTA and Steve Phillips, secretary general of Conference of European Directors of Roads, discussing key sectoral trends and potential scenarios/directions for road pricing and charging.
Furthermore, Geidne will return with his colleague Jonas Angvén, cloud services manager at the Swedish Transport Agency for a double perspective on implementing ANPR for tolling in Sweden.
Running in parallel, the CiTTi stream will start with the European Commission’s Matthew Baldwin, deputy director-general, DG MOVE presenting on the role of sustainable urban mobility in helping cities become climate-neutral.
Day 1 of CiTTi will also feature Jill Warren, CEO of the European Cyclists’ Federation; Diogo Pinto, policy director, FIA 1 Region; Carlo Giro, manager – goods transport, IRU; and René Spaan, project leader – smart mobility at the Municipality of Helmond.
