What is the best thing about your job?
Working hands on with policymakers to develop policies that will work better and improve outcomes.
What is the biggest challenge facing those with the responsibility for intelligent transportation systems and tolling/road pricing in 2023?
Managing technology and funding decisions for transportation requires making decisions today that will shape functionality years from now while being subject to popular and political opinion that is focused on the short term.
What is your best advice for those looking to implement road-user charging or tolling solutions?
It’s very important when implementing a road-user charge or tolling scheme to be very clear about the value proposition for those who are paying the charge or the toll – they need to know with simple clarity what they will get for what they pay.
What will you be talking about at Road User Charging Conference 2023?
I will be speaking about RUC developments in the USA, as much as possible about the emerging national pilot project, but also the decentralised developments that are helping build to it.
Why are you looking forward to speaking at Road User Charging Conference 2023?
I always look forward to speaking at this conference because the audience is so diverse in the types of RUC programmes and transportation policy areas they are involved with that it always makes for interesting discussion.
