The inaugural Road User Charging Conference Americas starts today, with 30 transportation leaders from six countries sharing insight on the latest tolling technologies, road pricing projects and intelligent transport systems being planned and implemented throughout the Americas.
Over the next two days, senior-level speakers from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Peru and the USA will come together virtually via Zoom to discuss how traffic is regulated and revenues generated on highways, freeways and express lanes, as well as on turnpikes in and out of most congested cities across North, South and Central America.
Day 1 begins at 17:50 GMT (09:50 PST / 12:50 EST / 18:50 CET) with opening remarks from chairperson Steve Morello, partner at Milestone Solutions. A total of 11 sessions will be delivered on Day 1 comprising 10 presentations and one panel discussion.
Annie Nam, manager of goods movement and transportation finance department at the Southern California Association of Governments, will deliver Day 1’s first presentation. She’ll discuss advancing equity and adapting decision-making to plan for road pricing in the Greater Los Angeles region.
Other unmissable sessions on Day 1 come from Reema Griffith, executive director at the Washington State Transportation Commission, who will present a road map to advancing distance-based charging in the Washington area; Fearghal King, project manager for mobility pricing at TransLink, who will outline the challenges and opportunities facing mobility pricing in Metro Vancouver; and Ben Miners, chief innovation scientist at IMS, who will share learnings regarding the usage of telematics in other related industries and their relevance in the growth of successful road usage charging deployments.
Day 1’s panel session will see Barbara Rohde, executive director at the Mileage Based User Fee Alliance, Mark Muriello, director of policy and government affairs at the IBTTA, and Adrian Moore, vice president of policy at the Reason Foundation, discuss the impact of the Biden administration, a new Congress and many new state legislatures on road charging in the USA.
