Name: Freddy Naranjo
Job Role: Assistant Bureau Chief – Quality Control
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that every project is different, exciting and it serves the public.
What is the biggest challenge facing those with responsibility for intelligent transportation systems and tolling/road pricing in 2021?
In some states the biggest challenge is changing public opinion about tolls and convincing people of the need to cover the increasing costs of infrastructure.
What’s your best piece of advice for those looking to implement road-user charging or tolling solutions?
My best advice is to be truthful, explaining the need, but also the benefits.
Does legislation help or hinder development in the sector?
Legislation helps. In the USA, people tend to be law abiding.
How will the business of road-user charging have changed by 2030?
I’d expect that technology will make it even easier. Most people want traffic to flow and convenience is a great asset. I’d expect more acceptance by more states, too.
Why are you looking forward to speaking at RUC Americas 2021?
It will be a great platform to exchange knowledge, experience, ideas and practices.
At the conference you’ll also be able to hear from LA Metro, Cubic Transportation Systems, Mileage Based User Fee Alliance, the Eastern Transportation Coalition, IBTTA… and more! You can view the full agenda here. All times for Day 1 are shown in PST (GMT-8) and for Day 2 are shown in EST (GMT-5). All sessions will be available after the conference on-demand.
