Kent County Council (KCC) has announced fresh funding totalling £500,000 from the UK Department for Transport through the Community Transport Grant.
Open to charities, resident groups and parish and town councils, the Community Transport Grant was created to support local transport schemes.
The funding is being awarded as a Kent Bus Service Improvement Plan initiative supported by National Bus Strategy funding provided by the UK government.
Neil Baker, KCC cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We are delighted to again offer the chance for community groups and local councils to bid for funding to support their communities and are grateful for UK Government’s support in enabling us to do this.
“Those who are successful at bidding for funding will receive a one-off grant to introduce or enhance local transport schemes in their communities.”
The council has provided community transport scheme grants for several years, but this year KCC has granted additional funding from its National Bus Strategy award for groups to bid to help communities impacted by bus service changes.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by 18 December 2023.
Innovations and achievements in public transport will be celebrated at the second annual CiTTi Awards on 21 November 2023 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
