Transport East has received more than £750,000 in funding from the Department of Transport (DfT) to pursue more sustainable transport options across the region.
The funding will help implement Transport East’s regional transport strategy and deliver other key priorities, such as reaching net zero transport by 2040.
Transport East claims that the partnership will support the next generation of transport development.
Funding will be used to decarbonise transport, better connect the region’s towns and cities and develop a centre of excellence, which is intended to encourage further investment in rural transport.
Kevin Bentley, councillor and chair of Transport East, said: “This past year has seen a tremendous level of progress made; Transport East has been working in partnership with government to strengthen the region’s voice when it comes to transport investment decisions.
“This year’s funding allocation is an increase on last year, showing growing government confidence in the transport body and clear support for the direction of priorities for the East.
“I look forward to being able to share our vision for transport across the region, through the launch of our Transport Strategy, later this year, and to continuing the fantastic work with our partners to create a greener, more prosperous and better-connected east.”
