HERE Technologies has announced that it is to acquire privately held software company, Micello. The company is based in California and specialises in operating a platform for creating, editing and publishing indoor maps.
Micello was founded in 2007 by Ankit Agarwal with the aim of mapping indoor areas, such as shopping centres. By using Micello’s Marketplace, technology companies are able to utilise Micello’s indoor maps in a wide range of customer applications by integrating them.
By acquiring Micello, HERE is able to adhere to its strategy to provide advanced location services and world-class mapping both indoors and outdoors. By combining indoor maps with its unique tracking technologies, HERE will be able to develop new and innovative market solutions. Examples of possible solutions include: tracking of parts on a factory floor, indoor wayfinding at complex transit interchanges, last mile guidance in vehicles and the optimisation of workspace usage.
Leon van de Pas, senior vice president, Internet of Things at HERE Technologies, commented on the acquisition, saying that it “is an important strategic investment for us to rapidly grow our ecosystem of partners and accelerate our growth in indoor mapping. I’m excited to welcome the global Micello team into the HERE family.”
Likewise, Ankit Agarwal, CEO at Micello, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Micello and our team. HERE’s investment in indoor maps will also significantly benefit our customers and Marketplace partners. We look forward to joining HERE, growing our Marketplace of partners and realizing our mission of mapping everything indoors.”
