Chief minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, and representatives from the State Government including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority visited the Hyperloop One development site in India to see a full scale hyperloop in action.
The Virgin Hyperloop One is currently in its second phase of development and the visit signified a vote of confidence following the signed agreement in February by the Indian state of Maharashtra to build the first hyperloop route in India. “This was a very fruitful discussion and we should be able to start moving on this project very fast,” Virgin Hyperloop One chief minister Richard Branson.
The hyperloop route run between central Pune, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and Mumbai in 25-minutess. The hyperloop will function as a high-capacity passenger and cargo transport system, connecting 26 million people. It will eventually support 150 million annual passenger trips and save over 90 million hours of travel time.
“The potential is enormous – to connect some 20 percent of the nation’s population and economic activity and create a vibrant, globally-competitive Great Lakes Megaregion,” said Virgin Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd.
