Paul Retter, head of the National Transport Commission, has warned that his country faces a looming financial crisis unless policy makers can urgently reform the existing road pricing regime. Retter cautioned that there was a growing gap between the money available and a backlog of projects in need of funding. The now defunct heavy vehicle and charging investment group proposed that trucks be charged according to weight and distance, however this received no support from either government or industry.
