Brighton & Hove City Council has announced increases to parking charges in an effort to better support transport across the city.
The changes, made as part of the Annual Council Budget setting process, were agreed by Brighton & Hove’s transport and sustainability committee and budget council earlier this year, and the new pricing will now appear on the PayByPhone parking app.
The cost of parking at council car parks and parking permits have also changed – with most prices having increased by an average of 6%.

Brighton & Hove has also halved a planned increase to the cost of parking permits in all ‘Light Touch’ zones following feedback from residents.
Last year, the committee also reversed a planned increase to parking charges in four areas of Brighton and Hove, including near Royal Sussex County Hospital.
By law, any surplus generated by parking fees and charges must be spent on provision of public transport services, road safety schemes, air quality or environmental improvements.
In 2022/23, some £1om of Brighton & Hove City Council’s surplus was spent on providing older and disabled people with concessionary bus passes and more than £1.6m on supporting bus and other public transport services.
Achievements and innovations in parking will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
