Quarterhill, a Canadian provider of intelligent transportation systems and solutions, has been awarded a contract to deliver a high-speed weigh-in-motion (WIM) system for Brussels Mobility, in partnership with Belgian technology integrator Jacops NV.
The WIM station, set to be installed on the E19 highway, aims to enhance road safety and enforce regulatory compliance by identifying and addressing overloaded vehicles in the Brussels-Capital Region.
The WIM system will preselect vehicles exceeding weight limits for further inspection, enabling enforcement teams to focus on high-risk cases without disrupting traffic flow.

The dynamic weighing station will provide real-time data on vehicle classification and weight, contributing to Brussels Mobility’s objectives of reducing road deterioration, improving safety, and ensuring fair competition within the transport sector.
Quarterhill’s iSINC WIM controller was chosen for its ability to manage multiple sensors and systems, providing continuous monitoring and comprehensive vehicle data.
The project will also feature automated number plate recognition (ANPR) and an overview camera to support enforcement efforts.

Quarterhill will oversee system design, supply, installation support, and training. The company will also provide technical assistance and diagnostics over the two-year warranty period to ensure optimal system performance.
Quarterhill is an official partner of this year’s Road User Charging Conference, which takes place on 4-5 March 2025 in Brussels, Belgium.
