Transport for London (TfL) has renewed it’s contract with UK technology and network service company Telent to supply and maintain over 3,000 traffic control assets.
The traffic signals, variable message signs and over-height vehicle detection systems will continue to be managed by Telent for the sixth year running. As well as suppling, installing and maintaining this network of traffic control systems, Telent will also grow the asset investment programme.
The extension which came into force in July, will run into 2021 with the opportunity to extend again for another year.
This is not the only contract Telent has with TfL as it is also working to design, upgrade and maintain the transport authority’s communication systems across all London Underground stations, depots, operational and office buildings, bus stations, river piers, cycle hire stations and the London Transport Museum.
Adam Scriven, Telent’s account director, said he looked forward to continuing their work with TfL stating: “This contract extension enables us to build on the excellent results achieved with TfL during the initial term of the contract and we are proud to continue to support London with our committed and expert team.”
Telent will over the length of the contract to deploy technology such as the Plug and Play traffic signals system, which minimises disruption by speeding up installation of key traffic signals. Teams will also support the necessary changes that have been put in place to maintain social distancing in response to Covid-19.
Nigel Weldon, business development director for Telent’s highways business, added: “The recent Coronavirus pandemic has presented some extreme challenges for TfL and working together closely to thoroughly understand those challenges has enabled us to tailor the service that Telent provides to meet TfL’s needs exactly.”
