UK company EAV has claimed it is receiving “unprecedented demand” throughout Europe for its ultra-lightweight and electrically assisted commercial vehicles.
Adam Barmby, founder and CEO of the Oxford-based manufacturer, said it has supplied several EAVans to Ireland, Spain, Germany, Portugal and France to help support British manufacturing and exporting abroad.
“What we’re now experiencing is a very strong interest and demand from European businesses, clearly illustrating their focus on clean city ultra-lightweight transport,” said Barmby
In the UK, EAVan has been trialled by multiple delivery companies, including London-based city logistics company Zedify.
“We’re currently looking at how these vehicles could fit within our fleet for our consolidated first- and last-mile deliveries,” said Rob King, CEO of Zedify.
In addition to EAVan, EAV has also recently launched EAVcab, a chassis cab version of its EAV Cloudframe chassis.
Born out of the development of the EAVan, EAVcab can be supplied with the chassis structure and front cab combined and a rear box or deck of multiple choices.
“This makes EAVcab an extremely versatile vehicle that will give many city municipalities the opportunity to legislate for cleaner air and quieter environments with no loss of efficiency to local businesses,” said Gordon-Stewart.
The purpose-built quadracycle weighs 120kg (265 lb) and can currently carry a 120kg payload.
A 250W motor helps the rider accelerate to an initial 6km/h (3.7mph) and then to a maximum pedal-assisted 25km/h (15mph).
What’s more, EAVcab has a range of 60 miles (96km) and can be recharged in six hours using a 13A, 240V plug socket.
Batteries can also be swapped to keep EAVcab in constant operational and additional batteries can be fitted to increase range.
Barmby added: “Our deployment with DPD has provided clear evidence of the real potential of vehicles like the EAVcab to operate efficiently and environmentally in towns and cities worldwide.
“We’re very excited by the data we’ve now collected and the enormous potential and benefits of this configuration of vehicle when deployed to replace vans and even cars in towns and cities.”
