Autonomous robot couriers will be trialled in an urban residential area of Helsinki by mobile and collaborative robotics operator Dimalog.
The home-on-demand courier robots will deliver fresh meals and selected grocery items in the smart city district of Kalasatama.
The trial is part of a wider 6Aika (six city strategy) logistics project, which aims to develop smart solutions for urban last-mile delivery.
The ASUM-1 autonomous robot will travel between Redi’s K-Supermarket to residents of the Majakka tower building, and will serve all 282 apartments as well as four communal areas.
Customers can place an order online before ASUM-1 collects the products and delivers the shopping to the customer’s apartment door.
According to Dimalog, the robot communicates with humans using a Finnish-speaking speech synthesiser. Customers will also receive an automatic notification when the robot arrives.
