Rapid delivery start-up Getir is set to acquire British last-mile firm Weezy as it aims to expand further into the UK market.
The Istanbul-based company promises to deliver grocery items to people’s doors in as little as 10 minutes. It launched in London at the start of the year and currently operates in 15 cities and towns across the country including Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
“Teaming up with Weezy, which has quickly established itself across the UK, is an exciting opportunity and one that complements our people-first belief and business approach,” said Turancan Salur, Getir’s UK general manager in a statement.
Weezy, which was founded two years ago, currently has over 700 employee and has recently raised over US$25m (£18.7m) from venture capital firms. While Getir is a privately-held firm, and was last valued at US$7.75bn (£5.79bn).
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
