Uber has completed the acquisition of restaurant-prepared meals delivery company Postmates.
However, according to the ride-hailing technology giant, the consumer-facing Postmates and its own Uber Eats platforms will continue to run separately.
Uber said the combination of platforms will provide consumers with more choice, will give restaurants new demand and tailored technology, and could increase income opportunities for delivery people.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said: “Uber and Postmates have long been committed to powering delivery services that support local commerce and communities, all the more important during crises like the one we face today.
“We’re thrilled to bring these two teams together to continue to innovate, bringing ever-better products and services for merchants, delivery people, and consumers across the country.”
Following the acquisition, Uber also announced a national listening tour, with virtual sessions starting in 202 to consult with restaurants and merchants on products, policies and pricing.
