The London EV Company celebrates as their new fully electric taxi, the TX is now fully certified to carry fare-paying customers. In addition to being fully electric, the new taxi provides wheelchair access and are equipped with contactless card machines, Wi-Fi, charging sockets, air conditioning and– providing passengers with full comfort as they make their way around London.
The TX is finally ready to “transport people around this great city of London safely, cleanly and stylishly,” says Chris Gubbey, CEO of the LEVC. He notes that these fully electric taxi cars are “better for passengers, more cost effective for drivers, it will play a major role in helping to improve air quality benefiting all Londoners. I am immensely proud of the work we have carried out so far: we have produced a new icon, the world’s most advanced electric taxi.”
These new taxis use advanced battery electric powertrain with a small back-up petrol generator, allowing the cars to travel up to 400 miles – of which 80 miles are achieved with pure electric range. The vehicles also remove gases and particles from the incoming air thanks to a multi-filter system. There is an in-built air quality sensor which, if the vehicle detects increased levels of pollution in the outside air, automatically closes the external air intake.
Deputy mayor for Environment and Energy, Shirley Rodrigues predicts that “these new electric taxis are at the forefront of green transport technology and will play a transformational role in the Mayor’s plan to phase out diesel and clean up the transport network.” She also adds that this will “help to accelerate improvements to London’s toxic air,” and that it is “great to have the first electric taxis on London’s streets and a testament to London’s leadership and that of LEVC”.
