Micromobility company Beam has partnered with Intel Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions provider Moovit to add its e-bikes and e-scooters to Moovit’s app.
Following the collaboration Moovit users will be able to see nearby Beam e-bikes in Sydney, and where e-scooters are in Canberra, in real-time. The team are also working to add more Australian cities soon.
According to the partnership, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic reliance on bikes and scooters has grown. Moovit’s 2020 public transport report, found that on average, 59% of cyclists and scooter users in Sydney prefer to connect their rides with public transport for more efficient first and last segments of a journey.
The partnership added many people still drive private vehicles to connect with main transport hubs or drive directly to their destination. It therefore aims to provide Australian citizens with micro-mobility services to ultimately take more cars off the roads.
“Offering more alternative transport options that can easily get people to their destination, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, is a critical component of any MaaS ecosystem,” said Juan Carbonell, Moovit’s head of solutions in Australia and New Zealand.
“That’s why we are excited to partner with Beam. From Sydney to Canberra, riders can now find several alternative mobility options to enjoy the most convenient ways of getting from A to B.”
As previously reported by CiTTi, Moovit has recently collaborated with Ventura for a demand-responsive transport service in Melbourne.
