British routing and navigation firm Beeline has partnered with e-scooter operator Tier to enable safer journeys in the capital as part of the London e-scooter trial.
Tier has integrated Beeline’s routing software and navigation interface into their app for users in London. People will be able to type in their destination within the app and Beeline’s routing algorithm will offer a variety of journey options, based on the type of ride they want to take.
Through their phones which can be placed on Tier’s wireless-charging docks, a navigation interface will then guide users to their destination, providing turn-by-turn directions as well as other journey-tracking details like speed, distance and ETA.
Additionally, Beeline’s routing engine is enhanced by community feedback that creates custom routes based on road ratings submitted by cyclists and other e-scooter riders. The company said this ensures that every journey is recommended by other road users, creating safer, easier and more enjoyable trips by greener modes of transport.
The software has been further customised to offer route suggestions that will avoid Transport for London “no-go zones” and Boroughs not participating in the trial. Riders will also be guided to the nearest parking bay, encouraging Tier e-scooters to be parked in an orderly manner.
Beeline co-founder Tom Putnam, said: “As more people look to take sustainable journeys throughout London, we want to provide them with trips that are safe, simple and enjoyable. We are delighted to partner with Tier and share our routing and navigation expertise which benefits riders and the scheme’s operation in London.
“It’s vital that when people are taking less carbon-intensive journeys, like riding an e-scooter, we are rewarding them with trips that they enjoy which is pivotal to encouraging long-term behavioural change.”
