Micromobility operator Dott is expanding in Brussels, the first city it launched in back in January 2019, as demand grows for its fleet of shared e-scooters and e-bikes.
To accommodate the increase in riders, Dott unveiled the first of its next generation of e-scooter. New features include front suspension and larger 11.5” wheels for a more comfortable ride.
These new e-scooters also feature an integrated phone holder with wireless charging and enhanced location accuracy to improve control around parking and speed controls.
Furthermore, the provider is also adding a second warehouse housing fleet maintenance and operations support functions, this is in additional to its Brussels operations centre.
Repairs, maintenance and logistics will be handled in-house by Dott’s engineers with the aim of ensuring greater control over the quality of its operations, resulting in a safer and more reliable service for its users. Vehicles are built to last and repaired where necessary, and any parts that cannot be reused are recycled, the operator added.
Marien Jomier, general manager Belgium, Dott, said: “The opening of our new, expanded warehouse marks a new chapter for Dott in Brussels. Having doubled our usage last year, we have become a part of everyday life in the city, helping to keep people moving in a sustainable way. This new base for our operations will ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable service for increasing numbers of riders.”
During 2021, Dott recorded an increase of 176% in the number of rides in the city compared to 2020, with as many people now using its shared vehicles as taking taxi rides in the city.
The company reported over 60% of rides now take place using a pass, which are designed to offer greater value for regular users, demonstrating that Dott’s fleet of e-scooters and e-bikes are being used for regular travel around the city.
An average trip distance of over 2km shows that micromobility vehicles are being used for trips that wouldn’t typically be walked, Dott said. Since launch, 50% of the population of Brussels has now ridden a Dott vehicle.
Dott now has a team of over 50 based in Brussels, and with the new warehouse has over 3,000m2 of space in the city. A fleet of 20 cargo bikes and 10 e-vans supporting the service in a 24/7 operation throughout the city.
