E-scooter operators have teamed up to form a micromobility coalition to shape urban mobility across Europe.
Micro-Mobility for Europe (MMfE) is made up of representatives from Bird, Bolt, Dott, FreeNow, Lime, Tier, Voi and Wind.
It aims to influence policy framework that will help micromobility develop across Europe and support the transition to zero-emission urban mobility.
Combined, the companies operate in over 20 EU countries in more than 100 European cities.
According to the coalition, its members bring a wealth of experience and data that could be instrumental in helping cities better understand, regulate and plan for traffic flows.
Furthermore, the coalition said its knowledge could help guide necessary changes to improve road safety and mobility services in line with future mobility needs.
Alexander Jung, public policy associate at Bird and co-chair of MMfE, said: “As the vast majority of public space is currently dedicated to car infrastructure, we need to rethink how public space in cities is used.”
According to the coalition, it aims to address the representation gap for micromobility in transport and mobility policy discussions.
MMfE said it intends to work closely with local authorities and community stakeholders to help integrate micromobility into European cities’ transportation ecosystems.
It has identified urban mobility, data governance and the circular economy as its top priorities.
Catriona Meehan, co-chair of the coalition and representative of Wind, added: “Micromobility has revolutionised urban mobility and established itself as an essential alternative to personal car ownership and use.
“The coalition is a key milestone in working together as one industry towards a healthier, more sustainable and less congested future for European cities.”
