London’s Lime e-bikes will be joined by e-scooters this summer as the operator is confirmed, alongside Tier and Dott, to take part in the capital’s e-scooter trial.
The micromobility operator has already ran an e-bike service in London for the past three years, it will add its Generation 4 (Gen4) scooters as part of the London trial, due to launch 07 June.
Lime said this will see it become the only multi-modal operator in the capital, providing two safe and sustainable transport options for Londoners as the city begins to open up following the easing in lockdown restrictions.
Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime, said: “London is one of the world’s greatest cities and we’re humbled that Transport for London and London Councils have placed their trust in us to deliver the e-scooter trial in the Capital.
“We are now focused on developing a world-class e-scooter service for residents and visitors to London – improving and innovating alongside TfL, the Boroughs and the other transport operators to ensure Lime works for every Londoner.”
Lime’s Gen4 e-scooters also feature swappable batteries, designed to reduce the overall environmental impact of maintaining the fleet, with Lime using e-cargo bikes to make battery swaps rather than having to transport scooters to and from warehouses for charging.
Scooters deployed in London will feature interchangeable batteries with Lime’s new e-bike model, soon to be available in the capital.
The operator launched the UK’s first full scale e-scooter trial in Milton Keynes back in August 2020, Lime has since secured two further schemes in Greater Manchester and in Salford with over 120,000 rides delivered to date across these services.
