Some 10 e-scooter docking stations are to be deployed across Nottingham in a bid to further improve parking in the city.
SuperPedestrian, a transportation robotics company developing electrified and AI technologies for micromobility vehicles, and Nottingham City Council have evaluated what they say are the most suitable locations for the stations, which can hold six e-scooters each, to ensure optimum e-scooter parking habits and safety.
The first two have now been installed outside Nottingham rail station.
Superpedestrian partnered with Standab, a Swedish design company that specialises in micromobility infrastructure solutions, to design the bespoke parking solution, which is set to be introduced in Nottingham this month.
The system was developed in consultation with disability groups such as the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
Made from steel and aluminium, the design features extended side panels to accommodate Superpedestrian’s e-scooters, which feature a longer wheelbase that other e-scooters on the market.
Councillor Audra Wynter, portfolio holder for transport at Nottingham City Council, said: “Throughout this e-scooter trial we’ve been really keen to listen carefully to feedback from the public about how we can potentially improve things.
“We really welcome the introduction of these docking stations as they will help to bring more order to e-scooter parking and keep pavements clear for all pedestrians.”
