German micromobilty operator Tier has partnered with fitness safety app Busby to develop a rapid response system for e-scooter riders involved in road traffic collisions.
If a Tier rider is involved in an incident, including both crashes and falls, the solution begins a 30-second countdown.
If the rider does not move or respond in that time the location is sent directly to their emergency contact and to Tier’s local city team.
Furthermore, the two organisations are working to further develop the system to enable riders to contact other nearby users or repair shops if they require assistance.
Tier riders will be connected to Busby’s RoadRadar feature, which sends an audible notification to nearby vehicle drivers, using the RoadRadar app, that a Tier scooter is close to them, encouraging the driver to take extra care.
Busby said it will share anonymous data with Tier on routes that have been identified as more hazardous. This data will support Tier’s decision-making on recommended routes to riders and ensure that danger zones, such as areas with potholes, are avoided.
Data will also be shared with local government and other authorities to help identify required road improvements.
Kirk Ryan, commercial director at Busby, said: “Every year there are tens of thousands of incidents involving cyclists on the UK’s roads. As electric scooters become more prevalent in the UK, and across the world, we want people to be as safe as possible when riding.
“We’re excited about partnering with Tier to help make their riders and the roads safer for everyone. We’ve worked closely together and are confident that our partnership will help protect people worldwide.”
