Swedish micromobility operator Voi will introduce e-bikes to three of its UK e-scooter schemes.
The company said it will go multimodal in Cambridge, Kettering and Peterborough from 21 January.
Each region will have 20 e-bikes for hire. In Cambridge and Peterborough, the bikes will be available to hire 24/7 while in Kettering they will be available from 04:00 to 23:00. Voi said it will ensure the e-bikes remain powered up with batteries swapped out by teams overnight.
Richard Corbett, regional general manager of UK, Ireland and Benelux for Voi, said: “Building on the e-scooter trials’ success, we are delighted to bring our green multimodal offer to Cambridge, Peterborough and Kettering.
“E-scooters and e-bikes have the potential to bring real transformation to our cities and towns by reducing pollution, improving air quality and ultimately making a positive impact on people’s wellbeing.”
Similarly to e-scooters, to ride an e-bike users are required to hold a provisional license and be at least 18 years-old.
It costs £1 to unlock the e-bike and then £0.15 per minute of usage. Voi also offers 24-hour and 30-day subscriptions that allow users to take an unlimited number of rides at a fixed rate.
E-bikes will be parked next to e-scooters and will also feature geofencing to bind them to the same geographical areas. In the Peterborough trial the e-bikes will have their own area.
Additionally, the e-bikes will be fitted with number plates to allow Voi to identify misuse and parking problems.
