Voi Technology is to triple the size of its e-scooter fleet in the UK after hitting its 250,000 rides milestone.
The Swedish micromobility operator, which is currently running trials in Liverpool, Birmingham, Northampton, Cambridge, Bath and Bristol, will increase the number of available e-scooters by 220%.
Furthermore, it plans to expand its operational areas by 140% and recently announced plans to launch the first rural area trial in the UK in early 2021, operating in North Devon.
Richard Corbett, regional general manager of UK, Ireland and Benelux for Voi, said: “We are very proud that Voi has helped support local communities and economies across the UK during what has been a challenging time.
“Voi is passionate about contributing positively to every town and city, and we will continue to work closely with local authorities to ensure shared e-scooters can support the existing local transport networks while contributing to reaching their carbon-emission reduction targets.”
According to Voi, it anticipates that up to 1,795 tonnes of CO2 emissions will be saved following the introduction of e-scooters currently operating in the six aforementioned cities.
As previously reported by CiTTi, the operator recently made rides free for key workers, with 1,000 NHS staff and emergency workers having taken advantage of the scheme already.
