Whoosh e-scooters are now available to rent in Lisbon.
The Eastern European micromobility solutions provider aims to develop a transport model for the Portuguese city centred around e-scooters and virtual car parks to complement existing public transport infrastructure.
Whoosh claims its parking lots are all situated within walking distance from one other, and are set up at locations across the city.
The vehicles’ built-in speed limit is 25km/h (15.5mph). When entering ‘slow zones’, such as crowded spaces, the speed will be automatically reduced to 20km/h (12.4mph). When entering a prohibited zone, such as a travel ban zone, the vehicle will make a sound before stopping. All zones are marked in the app.
Before every journey, riders will need to read the riding rules in the company app.
Each scooter can be unlocked for €0.50 cents (£0.43p) with the ride costing €0.15 cents (£0.13p) per minute. The price can very based on the app’s fee algorithm, which takes demand, charge and availability into account.
The Whoosh Pass subscription allows riders to bypass the unlocking fee, with weekly subscription costing €1.49 (£1.27) and €3.99 (£3.40) for a monthly subscription.
Whoosh claims that users can only book and park scooters at virtual parking spots, which are shown on the virtual map and are located out of the way of cars.
A dedicated team will be assigned to ensuring scooters are kept charged and in good condition and not left lying in the streets.
Every scooter allows riders to monitor the status and conditions of the vehicle, such as location and charge level.
More than 2,000 Whoosh scooters currently operate in Lisbon.
