The City of London has purchased three specially-converted Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs to help patrol and maintain Epping Forest.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the first vehicle with an electrified drivetrain to be added to the City of London’s Epping Forest fleet.
Its addition marks the start of the organisation’s shift to a ULEZ-compliant fleet dedicated to the renowned conservation area, which spans from Epping in Essex to Manor Park in Greater London.
With an electric range of 28 miles (45km), plus the option to use all-electric mode with the 4WD system, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will provide the Epping Forest Keepers with the option to navigate the area with minimal noise and emissions.
In line with the dual Special Constable status of the Epping Forest Keepers, the trio of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs have been converted to full rapid response vehicle specification.
The bespoke conversions were completed by Mitsubishi Motors UK’s dedicated MSVO (Mitsubishi Special Vehicle Operation) division.
Martin Newnham, head keeper and constable, Epping Forest, said: “The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the best fit for our requirements based on affordability and performance.
“Four-wheel drive was essential but there was also a need for a level of electrification that would help us to lower our carbon footprint and enhance our care of Epping Forest.”
