Bixi Montréal, a non-profit organisation that manages Montreal’s bike-share system, has launched a new fleet of self-service electric power-assisted bicycles in the Canadian city.
Following a successful pilot project in 2018, the new semi-electric blue Bixi bicycles can now be rented at any Bixi station and returned to an available docking terminal.
Users can rent the bicycles by either downloading the Bixi app, using a Bixi key or a prepaid Opus card. All users – regardless of whether they are a member or not – are charged an additional C$1 fee for every ride they take.
“We are extremely happy and proud to announce that starting this year, we will expand our services by adding 100% Quebec-made electric power-assisted bicycles to our fleet,” said Marie Elaine Farley, chair of Bixi Montréal. “Our goal is to provide the public with an alternative, low-cost option for getting around the city. We are thrilled to be expanding our services to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.”
