Osram will present its latest innovative technologies in the automotive sector at CES 2018, due to be held in Las Vegas on the 9th to 12 of January this year. Osram strive to reinvent the use of light to create an enhanced experience for drivers, passengers and other road users. The company’s technology aims to make vehicles smarter, safer and more stylising by making them more responsive to changing both interior and exterior environments.
Olaf Berlien, CEO of OSRAM Licht AG, Olaf Berlien says: “At Osram, we recognize the impact that light, in both visible and invisible forms, can have on quality of life, and we strive to incorporate the benefits of light into a wide variety of technologies and applications to make everyday life safer, smarter and more enjoyable.”
Osram acknowledges that there are hundreds of sources of light that is both visible and invisible within a modern vehicle, which enable numerous applications. Correspondingly, Osram partners with major Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) companies to bring the automotive sector the latest high-quality lasers and LED-based lighting – such as drowsy or distracted driving alerts or head’s up displays, as well as many more.
“At CES, we will illustrate our high-tech competency through an innovative virtual reality experience that will take visitors on a journey into the future of automotive lighting, including autonomous driving, and the many ways that light, in all its forms, can enhance the overall driving experience,” says Stefan Kampmann, Chief Technology Officer at Osram.
Osram will provide insight into the role lighting plays in the automobile of today and, more importantly, tomorrow. Demonstrations of various technologies will be available such as the DMD laser light source, which allows light and symbol projection into the road ahead and LiDAR, which enables autonomous driving by allowing vehicles to adapt and react to their environment in real-time to avoid collisions.
