The City of Los Angeles, through Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA), has continued to suspend fare payments on the LA Metro amid the Greater Los Angeles Wildfires.
At least twenty-five people are known to have died across the city, with an estimated 180,000 forced to evacuate their homes since the fires began [Tuesday 7 January].
Estimates projected damage at $150bn (£123bn) with the fires yet to have been completely stopped.
Chair of the LA Metro board of directors, posted through social media app X (formerly Twitter), Janice Hahn said: “Given the threat that the fires and severe winds continue to pose to our region, I’ve authorised LACMTA to continue free fares systemwide while these conditions exist.”
