Hitachi Rail has been awarded a contract to deliver its APIS solution for Lisbon Metro, enabling real-time traffic information broadcasts and supporting a wide range of multimedia formats.
Lisbon aims to use the scalable and modular system to advance the digitisation of information across its entire network, including rolling stock and surface-level data.
The contract also represents a revival of the partnership between Hitachi Rail and Lisbon Metro, solidifying solidifies Hitachi Rail’s homegrown APIS solution.

The solution will now be operational across Portugal’s three main rail transport infrastructures: Lisbon Metro, Porto Metro, and Infraestruturas de Portugal.
Acting chairwoman of Metropolitano de Lisboa, Maria Helena Campos, said: “This is an important milestone in our commitment to innovation and customer service improvement, contributing to a more accessible, efficient, and future-ready public transport system.
“With this new system, Lisbon Metro customers will have access to relevant real-time travel information, enabling greater efficiency in their journeys and better integration with other modes of transport.
“We are confident that this new service, resulting from the signed contract, will further strengthen the quality of the service we provide daily to the Lisbon Metropolitan area.”
