Transform Scotland’s new Traveline Scotland website and app is making it seeking to make it easier to plan journeys, across bus, train and ferry.
The service was delivered using a collaborative approach with transport operators across Scotland, Transport Scotland and Traveline Scotland.
It includes information on all public transport modes, including cycle schemes, and provides detail on tickets available and the total journey cost.
Funded by the Scottish Government, the journey planning service allows users to tailor their search results around the quickest route, fewest changes, step free access, or the route with the greenest carbon footprint.
The improvements also include a refresh of the journey planner, timetables, next departures and travel updates.
Delivery of the refreshed website and new mobile application is a commitment outlined in the Programme for Government 2024-25.
This is reportedly the first of several enhancements for Traveline Scotland being launched, supporting the transport body’s long term vision for transport and encouraging a shift away from cars and towards sustainable public transport.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop said: “I am pleased that following our Programme for Government announcement and recent publication of the Smart, Digital, Integrated Ticketing and Payment Delivery Strategy, we are quickly following up with improvements to Traveline Scotland.
“The additional information provided will now help people to make better informed decisions for their travel, including on price or eco-friendly choices, and is one of the first developments in our commitment to improve the quality of public transport journey planning services across Scotland.
“This is all part of the wider action we’re taking as part of our National Transport Strategy to make our transport system more accessible, affordable and available for all – enabling more people and communities to take climate action right across the country.”
Achievements and innovations in public transport planning will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
