Reanult, Waymo and Région Île-de-France (Paris Region) are considering implementing an autonomous mobility service between Roissy-Charles De Gaulle Airport and La Défense, a major business district located 3km (1.9 miles) west of the city limits of Paris.
The initiative forms part of the French government-supported EVRA (Expérimentation du Véhicule Routier Autonome – autonomous road vehicle experiment) programme and follows the signing in June 2019 of an exclusive agreement between Renault, Nissan and Waymo to develop autonomous mobility services in France and Japan.
Renault participates in the EVRA programme as part of the French Automotive Platform (PFA) consortium, which is testing electric and autonomous on-demand vehicles in Rouen in conjunction with the Rouen-Normandy metropolitan area and the Normandy Region; and on the Paris-Saclay urban campus with the Paris Region and Île-de-France Mobilités (Public Transport Authority of Paris Region).
Valérie Pécresse, president of the Paris Region and president of the Public Transport Authority of Paris Region, believes the proposed service between Roissy and La Défense could play a key role for the mobility of the Paris Region, which is investing €100m (£86.5m) in the development of an autonomous vehicle infrastructure.
“I hope that we will be able to bring this project to a successful conclusion [in time] for the Paris Olympic Games [in 2024],” said Pécresse.
