Central Bedfordshire Council has released its Highways Annual Plan for 2022/23, which includes plans for more than 200 road improvement schemes throughout the area.
The schemes include road surfacing enhancements, pavement maintenance, drainage schemes, street lighting upgrades and bridge works.
More than 40 of the projects relate to road safety improvements, such as speed reduction, traffic calming measures and the establishment of disabled parking spaces.
According to the council, schemes were chosen based on road conditions, as well as repair history and road type, among other factors.
The council hopes the plan will support a range of local infrastructure needs, including those of the emergency services, critical utilities, public transport facilities, education providers, town centres, visitor attractions and employment centres.
The local authority is responsible for more than 1,400km (870 miles) of road. This includes the maintenance of more than 220 bridges and structures, more than 23,000 streetlights and around 50,000 drainage gullies.
The council also plans to carry out reactive repairs for issues reported online via FixMyStreet or identified through its regular inspection routes.
