The Road Safety Foundation (RSF) has received nearly £200,000 in funding to develop a specialist resource to help local authorities analyse the risks to vulnerable road users in towns and cities.
The freely available toolkit aims to help councils find cost-effective highway interventions targeted at reducing fatal and serious injuries and understand the environmental benefits of introducing different traffic measures to urban areas.
The RSF will work in partnership with the International Road Assessment Programme, four local authorities and charity Brake.
“This is an exciting project that will ensure that the latest thinking and innovation for safety measures for vulnerable road users in urban environments are fully embedded within the iRAP tools,” the RSF said in statement.
“The enhancements will see the innovative application of a proven tool for rural road safety management extended into the urban context.”
The funding comes from the Road Safety Trust, a registered charity that supports projects and research aimed at making the UK roads safer for all road users.
