Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a contract to supply the first multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) toll collection system in France for Eiffage Group highway concessionaire APRR.
Following a pilot phase where APRR tested several MLFF technologies provided by different companies, APRR selected Kapsch as industrial partner in the deployment of its first MLFF system project.
The Kapsch solution should improve traffic flow and decrease the environmental impact on France’s forthcoming A79 highway (formerly RCEA – Route Centre Europe Atlantique).
“This is a great success for us, showing that we are best in class in terms of performances and value for money,” said Nathalie Leboucher, senior vice president, sales, Western Europe, Middle East and Africa at Kapsch TrafficCom.
“We are proud to start an exciting long-term partnership with APRR.”
APRR is the second largest French concessionaire, operating around 2,300km of highway. Employing 3,500 people, APRR manages a yearly turnover of around €2.4bn.
Recently, the ALIAE consortium – Eiffage’s group concession – was awarded operation of the A79 highway, which will open to traffic in 2022.
According to Kapsch, for drivers, the MLFF system allows travel time and fuel consumption to decrease as drivers no longer need to stop at plazas.
The automatic toll collection system has been designed as an efficient and secure mean of payment without physical interaction.
For the concessionaire, implementing a MLFF system can improve highway throughput, reduce incident numbers and decrease the environmental impact of toll roads, said Kapsch.
