Multinational technology and engineering group Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) has announced that its subsidiary TransCore LP (TransCore) has been awarded tolling system contracts in New Jersey worth approximately US$1.07bn (£907.5m).
The total deal comprises a US$914m (£775m) contract with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and a US$159.3m (£135m) contract with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) as part of a shared ambition to modernise tolling infrastructure in the state.
According to the company, this represents a key milestone in its smart mobility business growth plan and affirms its reputation as a toll collection system and transport solution provider.
The NJTA project includes the design, installation, operation and maintenance of tolling systems on the 241km (149.75-mile) Garden State Parkway and 209km (129-mile) New Jersey Turnpike for 10 years.
The SJTA project will cover the same responsibilities, but for an all-electric tolling (AET) system on the 72km (44-mile) Atlantic City Expressway for 12 years.
TransCore has said it will be implementing its own Digital Lane System to replace the current tolling infrastructure and act as a system integrator for the two agencies.
What’s more, the engineering firm claims this system is one of the most advanced toll collection systems in the US and that it integrates automatic vehicle identification, vehicle classification and video capture and recognition systems.
These auto-capture systems were designed to rapidly capture transactions in high-volume traffic across a variety of speeds and driving patterns. They likewise use a digital video audit system that ST Engineering claims provides real time, end-to-end revenue tracing and auditing.
