The first stage of the Moravski corridor and Ruma-Šabac highway tolling project in Serbia has officially opened.
The first stage of the €4.3m (£3.6m) project, between Ruma and Šabac in the greater Belgrade area, was completed in less than six months – reportedly a record time for a tolling project of this kind.
The tolling plazas were erected by local company Orion and are equipped with Kapsch SmartTOLL technology for tolling transactions.
Phases two and three are said to be on track to go live within the coming months. Once completed, SmartTOLL technology will be used for more than 100 lanes and 12 plazas.
Carolin Treichl, EVP EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom, said: “It is a testament to both the cooperation with our local partner Orion as well as to our own team that managed to complete the first phase of the toll system in record time.
“With SmartTOLL, the new highways will benefit from an efficient and robust tolling solution.”
In January 2023 Kapsch TrafficCom was awarded a €1m (£854,000) contract for nationwide tolling operations in Serbia, in addition to concluding hardware deals in Serbia, North Macedonia and Republika Srpska worth €1.85m (£1.58m).
