RDW, the Dutch vehicle registration authority, has awarded a contract to Emovis to design, install and maintain the first free-flow tolling system in the Netherlands on two new major roads.
The first is the forthcoming A24 (Blankenburgverbinding) highway near Rotterdam, which, upon opening in 2024, will connect the A15 and A20 via two tunnels, Hollandtunnel and Maasdeltatunnel, and is expected to be used by 60,000 vehicles daily.
The second is ViA15, a new stretch of highway near Arnhem/Nijmegen that extends the A15 to join the A12 and includes a new bridge over the Pannerdensch canal. The Emovis tolling system will be extended to the new bridge, which is expected to be used by 33,000 vehicles daily.
The free-flow solution will be implemented and executed by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and two of its executive agencies – RDW and Rijkswaterstaat – as well as the Central Judicial Collection Agency. RDW will assume the role of toll collector.
“The award of this contract is an important milestone in our programme,” said Jan Strijk, director for toll collection at RDW. “We place high demands on the equipment and the cooperation with the supplier. I am confident that Emovis can deliver on that.”
The contract awarded to Emovis includes an initial eight-year term, with three two-year extensions, and represents the company’s first-ever project in the Netherlands.
