Salik, Dubai’s electronic road toll system, has announced the introduction of variable toll pricing across its network of toll gates, effective from 31 January 2025.
The move aims to enhance traffic management by adjusting toll rates based on demand, encouraging more efficient road usage.
Salik operates a fully automated, tag-based toll system designed to reduce congestion by charging vehicles for using key roads.
The system, launched in 2007 and operated by Salik Company PJSC, currently charges a flat rate per crossing.
However, the introduction of variable pricing will see toll rates fluctuate depending on the time of day.
Under the new structure, peak-hour crossings between 6am and 10am and between 4pm and 8pm will be charged at AED 6.
Off-peak hours, which run from 10am to 4pm and from 8pm to 1am, will continue to be charged at AED 4. No charges will apply between 1am and 6am.

On Sundays, excluding public holidays and major events, a flat rate of AED 4 will apply throughout the day, except during late-night hours when tolls are not in effect.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the pricing schedule will be modified to reflect shifts in travel patterns.
Peak hours will run from 9am to 5pm, during which crossings will be charged at AED 6.
Off-peak hours will be between 7am and 9am and from 5pm to 2am, with a fee of AED 4. No charges will apply between 2am and 7am.
The company confirmed that there will be no changes to the existing one-hour cap on consecutive charges for crossings at Al Safa North and South and Al Mamzar North and South toll gates in the same direction.
Salik said the introduction of variable pricing is intended to improve congestion management and support Dubai’s broader transport strategy.
