ITS provider SkyToll, which operates the electronic vignette system in Slovakia, has revealed the amount of tolls collected during 2021, as well as the number of discounts handed out last year, highlighting a year-on-year increase.
During 2021 the toll collection from Slovakia’s National Motorway Company reached €231m (£193m), compared to the previous year, toll collection in 2021 was 9% higher. While, compared to pre-covid 2019 it increased by 4%.
Furthermore, the National Motorway Company pays SkyToll nearly 30% of these comprehensive collected tolls.
The toll collection for using specified sections of motorways and expressways reached €157m (£131m) last year. The specified sections of first category roads earned €73m (£61m), with operators of vehicles registered abroad accounting for nearly 48% of the annual toll collection.
Among the foreign users of the specified road sections the highest amount in 2021, just as in the previous years, was paid by vehicles from Poland (19%), followed by the Czech Republic (7%) and Hungary (5%).
In the breakdown of revenues according to the payment mode, the highest collection was prepay, with a share of 54% of the total annual amount. Also in 2021, the operators of lorries in the weight category over 12 tonnes with two axles had the highest share of the annual toll collection, which paid €189m (£158m), representing 82% of the total amount.
In terms of emission classes, the biggest share of toll collection (88.7%) was achieved by vehicles of the EURO V, VI and EEV class with €204m (£170m). The day with the highest collection for the whole year was 18 November 2021, with the amount of €1m (£836,000).
Additionally, toll discounts, which are based on mileage with limits of five, 10, 20, 30 and 50 thousand kilometres driven during a year, were granted in 68,343 cases throughout 2021. From these 50,170 originated in Slovakia. Vehicle operators were granted discounts totalling €4m(£3.3m), which compared to 2020 discounts is a total increase of 13%.
Since commissioning electronic toll collection in 2010, the total amount of toll collection has reached over €2bn (£1.6bn).
