The West Virginia Parkways Authority (WVPA) has announced the introduction of significant tolling system upgrades across the West Virginia Turnpike, aiming to improve convenience and efficiency for drivers.
The advancements include a new toll-by-plate payment option, updated E-ZPass infrastructure and integrated in-lane digital signage at all four toll plazas.
The enhancements are part of WVPA’s ongoing commitment to improving roadway operations and traveller experience.
The upgrades also support the continued transition from cash payments to electronic tolling, a shift that has been steadily increasing since WVPA first introduced a multimodal tolling system in 2008.
Jeff Miller, executive director of WVPA, said: “This upgrade was crucial for ensuring we can efficiently operate and support our travellers well into the future.

“While E-ZPass remains the most efficient option, the new toll-by-plate feature offers a convenient alternative for those without transponders, allowing them to pay online after their journey.”
The newly deployed technology processes transactions faster, handles growing electronic toll volumes, and provides drivers with more flexible payment options.
These improvements aim to reduce congestion at toll plazas, streamline payment processes, and enhance the overall experience for motorists.
The upgrades also include a back-office system launched in September 2024, giving drivers access to enhanced account management and self-service payment features.
The integration of front-end and back-end systems aims to ensure a seamless tolling experience from payment to processing.
