Derby City Council has unveiled plans for a new mobility hub at the Nottingham Road shopping precinct in Chaddesden, in an effort to provide residents better sustainable transport options, reduce congestion and improved air quality.
Due to be installed this summer, the mobility hub will be funded by the UK Department for Transport’s (DfT) Future Transport Zones Fund, which was awarded to Derby City Council to trial new developments in transport.
The DfT-funded scheme aims to provide the local community with a range of sustainable and travel methods, making it easier for residents to access the shopping precinct as well as access additional transport choices.
Furthermore, the installation of the hub will allow the footway to be improved, as well as the addition of an Enterprise car club location, electric vehicle charging, an accessible seating area with bike storage and a public bike pump, and interactive screen with live travel updates.

Labour’s climate change, transport and sustainability councillor for Derby City Council, Carmel Swan, said: “I’m delighted that the latest mobility hub will be in place this summer, following the success of our first hub in the Six Streets area of Darley.
“Many of our improvement works so far have focused on the city centre, but Derby is much more than this and it’s important that other areas of the city benefit from improved transport choices.
“This mobility hub will be a welcome addition to our ever-growing network of active and sustainable travel options and will play a key role in our combined efforts to combat climate change through reduced pollution and congestion in Derby.”
Ahead of the installation, residents will have the opportunity to quiz the council on the new hub at events held on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 April from 11am to 3.30pm at the Nottingham Road shopping precinct.
Enterprise will also provide information on its car-club scheme, while the council will be able to learn more about any potential transport challenges and needs.
The UK’s best mobility hubs will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Nominations are open now!
