George Freeman is no longer minister of state for the future of transport following prime minister Boris Johnson’s government reshuffle.
Freeman, who was previously Teresa May’s policy chief, shared the news via his Twitter page: “On my bike. It’s been a huge privilege to shape the new £FutureofTransport Strategy at @transportgovuk w @Grant Shapps & brilliant DFT team, & help the PM make this an inspiring @OneNationCons Government of Renewal. Sad not to be part of it.”
Nusrat Ghani has also lost her job as transport minister. The Welden MP had held the role from January 2018, and became the first Muslim woman to speak from the Commons dispatch box.
She also supported Jeremy Hunt against Johnson in last year’s Tory leadership contest.
Freeman and Ghani’s successors had yet to be announced at time of writing.
