A new study by the British Park Association has found that the majority of parking payments are still made in cash.
From those surveyed, 75% said they paid for parking using money while only 30% said they felt confident using a mobile phone for payment.
However, the study highlighted that, if contactless card payments were accepted, then this method, in addition to cash, would be motorists’ preferred options.
Furthermore, the research looked at how far people were willing to walk to their destination after parking, with over half of respondents happy to walk for five to 10 minutes from parking to their destination.
Kelvin Reynolds, director of corporate and public affairs, British Park Association, said: “It is encouraging to see that motorists are happy to walk further than they might have done in the past.
“With initiatives such as park active, which encourages walking and cycling from peripheral car parks, these could help to revive our high streets as the environmental and health benefits will make them more attractive places to be.”
