Technology payment corporation Mastercard and smart energy management SaaS platform provider Last Mile Solutions have announced a partnership to establish new payment standards for the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry.
The new solution will enable existing EV charging stations to be integrated with a variety of payment terminal brands, and without the need for extensive software upgrades.
The payment gateway also aims to unify the user experience and simplify payment terminal integration, onboarding and transaction processing.
Mastercard executive vice president George Simon said: “The transition to the mass adoption of electric mobility is key to building a more sustainable world.
“Achieving this requires partnerships like these to make the transition as seamless as possible, not only for consumers but also for infrastructure operators.”
The solution will be rolled out across Europe starting in early 2024 to enable chargepoint operators to comply with the EU AFIR regulation that will come into force in April 2024.
The news follows Mastercard’s introduction of improved in-car-payment software at the end of 2023. Both technological improvements aim to increase efficiency for customer’s car related payments.
Achievements and innovations in sustainable urban mobility will be celebrated at the third annual CiTTi Awards, which will be held on 26 November 2024 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Nominations officially open in March 2024. Please visit www.cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector.
