The Department for Transport is prompting businesses to apply for transformative innovation funding to transform the future of transport, with up to £1.14 of funding available.
The Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant (T-TRIG) 2017 has been brought in as a means of funding any projects in the phases of early-stage research and transform them into innovative ideas or concepts to help create a better transport system. The programme initially started as a pilot in 2014 and has now released a further four rounds of funding.
The main purpose of the T-TRIG scheme is to advance technology in transport and enable a better transport system in the UK. It also aims to reduce any barriers to innovation and allow for any ideas that have the potential to develop further through funding.
This week, the grant has opened for its fifth round of applications. This allows businesses to bid for up to £30,000 – a £5,000 increase from previous rounds. This round asks bidders to focus on the use of big data and machine learning as means of improving the UK’s road network and/or to retain a focus on reducing shipping emissions.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, transport secretary, says that “ground-breaking pilot projects are already benefiting passengers around the country, and this new round of innovation funding will give more businesses a chance to make their ideas a reality,” adding that he is looking “forward to hearing from pioneering companies about their plans.”
